A Day at The Granary
The Christmas period can see you attending all sorts of events with a wide variety of dress codes. Below are just a few simple examples of how to create your perfect Christmas outfit.
The Traditional Dinner
Should you find yourself attending a formal function, a traditional dinner with all the trimmings, then your outfit, whilst comfortable, should reflect the celebratory convention of the occasion. Whether you keep it throughout the day, or lose it soon afterwards, it’s a good idea to arrive with a sports coat. As it’s a social function, soft shoulder lines, patch pockets, semi or fully unlined jackets hit that middle ground between stylishness and ease. Fabrics such as blends of linen, wool and silk as created by European fashion houses Edward Dressler and Daniel Hechter, or woven, hopsack wools from Rembrandt, are also great at this time of year. Pair it with a chino or sports trouser from our broad selection that complements the choice of jacket and shirt and you will exude a certain sophistication that is sure to become the talk of the table! Having created such a refined ensemble, don’t finish it off with a pair of shoes from the office; instead, consider a pair of suede shoes from English shoemakers Loake, or a statement pair from Dutch brand A Fish Named Fred.
The Backyard Barbeque
If you intend on spending Christmas day with family or friends in a more casual setting, where the turkey has been replaced by some local seafood and there’s a high chance of cricket after lunch, then casual, comfortable chic is a must. Shorts will offer you ease on a hot day. However, ensure they are a smart, tailored style such as by Meyer. Even though it is a casual day, a lot of effort still goes into the preparation and thus, it’s important to turn up in something a little more refined than a tee; try a classic polo from American Brand Gant or one of these special and limited print European shirts from Rich Friday or Haupt. To finish your casual outfit, a pair of boat shoes or driving loafers looks good when your knees are under the table, but can be readily kicked off before the first bowl is played.
The First Meetings
Should you have met someone special during the course of the year, the celebrations over the Christmas New Year period can have you attending all sorts of gatherings, being introduced to family and friends. In such a case, it can be difficult to know what to wear, how to present and what to expect. In any event, looking refined, yet casual and approachable will have you breaking the ice. Classic and seasonal oxford shirts from Polo Ralph Lauren, are a staple of the wardrobe and great to have on hand. A pair of smart, dark denim such as by ethical company Nudie Jeans will have you looking and feeling both relaxed and appropriate. As we all know, the weather at Christmas changes with each year, so if you’re out for the evening, consider having a jumper readily accessible, such as these rugby tops by GANT, especially if there is a chance you’ll be outside. We have a wide range of sneakers that are a cut above the weekend knockabouts, check out our summer essentials from Tommy Hilfiger or Ecco, for a smarter take on casual.
